As part of St. Gregory's sister parish outreach program, the Adopt-A-Family ministry provides Christmas presents to needy families from Our Lady of Angels. Our sister parish is located not far from downtown San Diego in an area where rising rents and utility costs have greatly affected families already struggling to make ends meet.

The goal is to share some of our many blessings with those less fortunate and to continue to build our relationship with our sister parish. Singles, couples, families or groups volunteer to "adopt" one or more family members from Our Lady of Angels community. This program is a great way to involve our children, friends and co-workers in the true meaning of Christmas.

Participation simply involves signing up and letting us know how many individuals you would like to sponsor. You will be notified with details of the individual or family you have been matched with by the end of November. You will receive a list indicating a desired toy, teenage item, clothing sizes, etc, for your consideration. There are also opportunities to sign up to donate a new bicycle (with safety helmet) or other special needs items, such as mattresses, dressers, etc. You will be asked to wrap the gifts and mark them clearly with the family name and assigned number (provided). The weekend of 19-20 December 2005 has been set aside for collection of the gifts at Saint Gregory the Great Parish Hall. These will be delivered to Our Lady of Angels Monday, 19 December, for distribution to families.

We sincerely thank all who have participated in the past, making the Adopt-a-Family Christmas program so successful. Through your generosity, we have been able to help many deserving families. We recognize that this year each of us has been asked many times to contribute to relief efforts and other causes, within our parish, across our country, and around the world. In considering whether or not to participate in this program, understand that any contribution, whether it be donating a grocery store gift certificate, providing an individual a gift or adopting an entire family, would be greatly appreciated by those at Our Lady of Angels.
